Key to Life Breast Cancer Assistance Program

The Key to Life Breast Cancer Assistance Program's funding is currently on hold due to budget restrictions and are unable to take applications at this time.  Please check back in September to check on the application status.  You may still call Key to Life at this time to leave messages.

The Key to Life Breast Cancer Assistance Program is a grant program through the American Breast Cancer Foundation that provides financial assistance to uninsured or underinsured women and men of all ages for breast cancer screening and diagnostic tests, treatment and support items.  Those with income levels of 300% or less of the HHS poverty guidelines may qualify.  Those with an income over 300% have the opportunity to request hardship consideration.

Financial assistance grants are available to eligible women and men to assist with the following diagnostic tests and services:

Clinical Breast Exams
Screening and Diagnostic Mammograms
Ultrasounds
Surgical Consultations
Emergency Biopsies

The grants in this program are awarded to the applicants to assist with the payment of designated health services.  The grants are paid directly to the health-care service providers.  The applicant is responsible for properly applying for all necessary grants and making financial arrangements with the health-care providers for any amounts exceeding the grant award.

Applicants must themselves apply to the Key to Life Breast Cancer Assistance Program directly through the national toll-free number 1-877-Key-2-Life  (1-877-539-2543) Mon-Thur 8-5p EST, Fri 9-12p EST.

Geographical, income, insurance, and health information are gathered during this interview to determine if the applicant may qualify for the Key to Life program.  Once an applicant completes the phone interview their applications forms are mailed to them.

At the present time grant funds are limited and applicants may be accepted on a first-come first-serve basis, or put on a waiting list.
