Martin Memorial Oncology Rehabilitation
Martin Memorial Rehabilitation offers a comprehensive
treatment approach for our cancer patients. Physical Therapy, Occupational
Therapy and Speech Therapy are available as an inpatient service as well as on
an outpatient basis.
The outpatient Oncology Rehab program is designed for the
oncology patient who has been receiving inpatient rehab or home health services
and is now ready to progress with their rehabilitation. Our program offers
options for land and aquatic rehab, as well as an individualized therapy program
based upon the cancer protocol and personal assessment. Their therapy
program will be adjusted on an ongoing basis and will include patient education
for safe progression of exercise to transition to a home or wellness program.
Martin Memorial Health and Fitness centers offer this continuum of exercise
after rehab.
Cancer survivors often develop symptoms and could benefit from
our rehabilitation program; we address functional deficits encountered during
any phase of a patient's cancer therapy. Martin Memorial Outpatient rehab
now offers services that focus on cancer related symptoms through a personally
designed therapeutic program. Cancer rehabilitation can be implemented
during or after primary medical treatments for cancer. All that is needed
to start the program is a prescription with a preferred diagnosis.
The following are examples of some of the diagnosis and
symptoms that can be addressed in Oncology Rehab:
• Deconditioning and/or functional
deficit(s)
• Decreased activities of daily living
• Acute or chronic pain
• Dysphasia
• Lymphedema
• Localized muscle weakness
• Gait abnormality
• Cognitive impairment
• Balance disorders
• Neurological deficits
• Peripheral neuropathies
A physician referral is needed for this program.
